What is Silica?
Silica is a chemical compound which often occurs
in a crystalline form known as “quartz” or sand. Crystalline silica is found in
soil, sands, ores, rocks, flint, gravel, slate, diatomaceous earth, concrete,
mortar, plaster, refractory materials, clay, limestone, shale, silica flour,
bricks, and abrasives, among other natural and man-made substances. Crystalline
silica is considered respirable and can be invisible to the naked eye.
